“Our Listening Project” is part of the See, Hear, Value campaign and provides opportunities for students and staff to meet and have a conversation.
The project aims are:
- To provide opportunities for students and staff to meet and have a confidential conversation, and to listen to each other’s experiences about studying and working at the University of Southampton.
- To help students feel welcome and increase their sense of belonging to the Faculty of Medicine.
- For staff to get to know students and gain insight into the current student experience.
Our pilot project enabled 5 pairs of students and staff to get together for an honest and open conversation. The short training video shared on this page aims to help students and staff get the most out of this conversation.
We will be sharing the outcomes of the pilot evaluation here soon!
The setting
If possible, find somewhere you both feel comfortable and with minimal distraction and disturbance. It might be helpful to identify how much time you both have for the meeting, or suggest one person keeps a note of the time.
The conversation
You may not need any help starting a meaningful conversation with someone new. But if you would like a bit of help, this 5-minute video suggests how you might introduce yourselves, finding out a little more about each other, and types of questions that may be helpful in getting the conversation going.
